Gentlemen, we at Beehive are well aware of how difficult it can be to identify one’s color preferences. However, good references are hanging in your closet - the color of your favorite ties. Indeed, ties are little palettes - a great source of inspiration when searching that perfect color combination. For walls, a neutral color combined with one or two accent colors.

This season, two very different color trends have emerged: one elegant, bold, dynamic palette and the other's palette is comprised of complementary colors (colors that sit opposite one another on the color wheel.)

From the Runway to the Hallway, Persimmon Packs Punch

One of the hottest colors on the runway this spring is a juicy shade of Persimmon orange. Persimmon is appearing in fashion, accessories, and in interior decorating. Orange is one of  the warmest colors on the color wheel. It is uplifting, cheerful, energizing  and studies have shown that orange is an appetite stimulator -  a great choice for a kitchen.

Inspired by this gorgeous color, I recently turned a white, sterile kitchen into a cozy cheerful space. 

Classic Camel Never Loses Appeal

I know spring is barely here, but I can’t wait to talk about next fall! After New York Fashion Week and the European shows, which recently ended, I cannot contain my joy over the return of one of my favorite colors: Camel. The color was everywhere in the fashion shows, with designers such as Chloe showcasing a variety of camel-themed hues in their designs. If you would like to see more fashion inspiration, Fashionista’s Lauren Sherman wrote a detailed piece on the style trend.

Whether you choose a greener or warmer version, camel is a great color to use as an inspiration for deciding on a color palette for your room.  I particularly love a combo with cream and grays for a soft classic look, or with darker browns and khakis for a comfortable modern look.

What a night it was! After an endless pass of one gorgeously gowned star after another, Kathryn Bigelow, beautifully dressed herself, wins both awards for best director and best movie. There were a lot of blue gowns—perhaps Avatar influenced? But, here are my favorite dresses of the evening paired with some room ideas and color swatches.

Excitement builds as the Academy Awards approach and like many, the reason I enjoy watching is to find out who will wear what. This is it; one "faux pas" and a celebrity can stay on the worst dressed list for years to come, or the right choice and a barely known starlet can be catapulted to the top.

I can't wait for next Monday to report my take on color trends, but I would like to pay homage to what this event is really about: cinema. The following nominated movies' colors inspired me the most this year. I created a few palettes for each movie according to a scene that moved me the most. Let the colors talk!

New York Fashion Week

The Fall/Winter 2010-11 fashion collections were presented last week in New York at Fashion Week. I rarely have the time these days to attend any of these shows, but I love reading about them and looking at the new collections in the press.

I find the new designs inspiring, not so much as source for deciding what to wear, but as in insight of the general direction color trends are taking. This year I noticed a lot of grays and browns. Marc Jacob’s collection incorporated these colors throughout. Zac Posen also seemed to gravitate toward the grays, and paired them with beautiful cognac, espresso and tawny browns.

I find these colors to be very suited for fall fashion, but also a great inspiration for home colors. I like to make little collages of colors combinations that I found beautiful and I paired them with a room and color swatches for future references. Here are a few examples:

2010 Grammy Colors

It has been a while, but after last night’s Grammy awards, nude tones seem to be taking center stage again!

Beyoncé wore a very flattering champagne colored gown by Stephanie Rollan.

Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau is back! Its colors and patterns are reappearing in fashion and in interior decorating.



Intrigued by this beautiful and unusual style, I traveled to Brussels, the birth place of Art Nouveau, to learn more about it.

Brussels is the capital of lovely little Belgium, and of Europe as host to the seat of the EU (European Union).

It is a very international, cultural and vibrant metropolis with a long history, shown in its Medieval city walls, Romanesque churches, Gothic cathedrals and squares, Baroque palaces, Neoclassic and Art Deco edifices as well as many Art Nouveau architectural splendors – enough to keep any visitor going for days.

Brussels is very proud of its Art Nouveau heritage which it celebrates regularly. Last October, the Art Nouveau Biennial offered various exhibits and visits to private homes.

Recent Fashion Trends

As we experience the first cool mornings, it is our seasonal desire to update the clothes in our closet. With the country slowly recuperating from a recession, a new wardrobe is out of the question for most. Here are a few trends for this fall that might already be in your closet.

Neon Pink:

Marc Jacob and Michael Kors, both have a rainbow of neon shades in their fall 2009 collections, but it is the pink highlighter hue that works on all skin tones. Pair it with black for a most 80s inspired adaptation or use it as an accessory for a more subdued approach.

Monotone Look:

This is another trend that doesn't require a lot of spending. As Narciso Rodriguez showed in his fall 09 collection, a "one color head to toe look" that is lengthening and flattering if you stay with neutral colors (no neon here) like beige, grey and black of course.

Red and Pink:

Jason Wu and Oscar De La Renta paired these two colors together. The added black elements, either in print or with accessories worked and kept the look more sophisticated than Valentine's Day.

Seasonal Confusion:

Between one shoulder dresses and tops, hot colors, flowing lightweight fabrics and sleeveless shift dresses that are "tres chic" this fall, it seems that seasons are getting blended and that is great! Why not wear your past summer, favorite yellow silk dress with a black cashmere cardigan and black knee high boots?
