In gardens, all roses naturally go with green. In interiors however, some colors coordinate better assorted than others: reds, peaches, oranges and yellows.

You've Got Mail! DIY painted Town or Country painted mailboxes

One thing I have always loved is the “classic” American mailbox, with its happy raised little flag. I love the fact that it can easely be decorated. It actually calls for it--to reflect a household personality. Decorating your mailbox will also make your house easier to find for new guests, as you will be known as "the house with the polka dot mailbox!" Here are a few examples of  ways you can embellish yours. I actually planned on doing a third, but it started raining! I hope this project gets you inspired. Gardens are great sources of inspiration, their colors and shapes often being reinterpreted in new compositions. 16th century Italian painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo, however, used his garden’s gifts quite literally. He created unusual and unexpected portraits which at first look human, but are actually composed of carefully placed flowers and fruits.

This past Monday, I happily awoke in Anne and Eve's beautiful and colorful San Francisco home. Their hue-filled decor set the stage for my fist real tour of San Francisco.  San Francisco is famous for its colorful Mexican murals and the playfully painted architecture of the District 5 Area.  The most famous of these are Haight-Ashbury and The Castro district.  The rich heritage of the area, the beautiful flowers and fruit of the place trickle into the residences of the city.  The interiors and exteriors enhance the cities natural spectrum to create a cohesive environment.

One of the hottest colors on the runway this spring is a juicy shade of Persimmon orange. Persimmon is appearing in fashion, accessories, and in interior decorating. Orange is one of  the warmest colors on the color wheel. It is uplifting, cheerful, energizing  and studies have shown that orange is an appetite stimulator -  a great choice for a kitchen.

Inspired by this gorgeous color, I recently turned a white, sterile kitchen into a cozy cheerful space.

Easter is the time to celebrate the tender colors of spring: rainbow colors on eggs and bouquets of soft pastels appear in gardens and window boxes.

These colors can be a great source of inspiration for decorating kids walls as they create cheerful, bright and harmonious combinations.
