This is the time of the year for “tag” sales! Neighbors are getting rid of unwanted clutter and with a little paint and imagination, it is amazing how easy and affordable it is to transform someone’s “junk” into somebody else's “treasure”! With a fresh coat of paint and gentle colors, this outgrown little boy’s chest of drawers will look great in a guest room!

Every year in NYC, the ICFF is an anticipated event that draws thousands of designers from around the world to have a glimpse at what is “the best and what is next in design” at the Jacob Javits convention center. This week, show rooms are throwing parties citywide for anybody involved in the business of beautiful homes. This is truly a “must be in New York” week! The most exiting of these celebrations takes place yearly at the Museum of Modern Art, in the beautiful sculpture garden, and this year was no exception! I was there on Saturday, and had a blast and shot a short video (see below). It was such a warm beautiful evening with hundreds of elegantly dressed (and colorfully too!) designers from all over the world. Ann and I are going to the Javits Center and will write a post about it, so check back with us to get a peek at the event.

I love flowers but I am not crazy about the pots that contain them! Here is a project that “blends” my boring terra cotta pot with the stone patio. I like the way it makes the pot disappear and my new hibiscus, the star of the show. (Hopefully I won’t kill it within two weeks, I unfortunately don’t have a green thumb!) You can use this painting method on many other projects, it works great too for unsightly home foundations that just call for disappearing, just make sure you use a combination of colors that match the surrounding ground.

Russian jeweler Fabergé is most known for its exquisite jeweled eggs that were originally made for the Russian Tsars and are now worth quite a fortune. Here is a DIYversion of Fabergé eggs that are unbreakable (as I filled them with plaster) and won’t break the bank!

April starts next week and two things come to my mind thinking about this month, April Fool’s day and April showers (Yes, I am leaving “tax day” in that other area of my brain called “denial”). So I thought this project would be perfect for this spring month! Jokes aside, The "Fool's Gold" umbrella stand uses a great technique that can be used on many different surfaces and produces a truly “fooling,” antique gold look. I recommend doing the spraying part outdoors.
